Very Light & Light Crude
Light crude oil has a low viscosity and low density, with an API gravity higher than 31.1° API. It is typically “sweet”, with low amounts of sulfur content. Because of their low viscosity and generally low level of contaminants, they are typically easy to pump, process, and transport. However, the lighter oils are prone to high volatility, meaning that care must be taken to ensure they do not evaporate.
Very light crude oils can be refined into high-value end products such as jet fuel, gasoline, kerosene, and naphtha. Light crude oil products include most Grade 1 and 2 fuel oils and diesel fuel oils.
