The Challenge

Tired of Getting Burned by Your Odorant Flare?

Before you can perform maintenance or decommission an odorant tank, the mercaptan vapors and blanket gases inside must be safely destroyed. Traditional odorant flares are cumbersome, require open flames, and expose operators to serious burn risks during and after flaring.

Welker engineered the SafeBurn™ as a high-quality alternative — purpose-built around operator safety, ease of use, and durability in the harshest field conditions. It handles mercaptan, H₂S, water, and other common gas contaminants without compromise.

"Lighting the SafeBurn™ is as safe and easy as lighting your gas grill at home. Simply push the auto igniter to begin flaring — no open flame required."

  • No open flame needed — push-button auto ignition
  • Perforated aluminum shroud protects operators from burns
  • Check valve prevents pilot flame backflow into the tank
  • 316/316L stainless steel withstands mercaptan and H₂S
Built for the Field

Every Detail Engineered for Operator Safety

Auto Ignition

Push-button auto igniter starts the flare instantly — just like a gas grill. No matches, no open flames, no unnecessary risk to operators in the field.

Operator Burn Protection

A perforated aluminum shroud surrounds the entire flare body, guarding operators against burns during active flaring and during cool-down after flaring completes.

Check Valve Protection

A check valve on the flare gas line prevents the pilot flame from backing up into the odorant tank as pressure decreases during flaring — a critical safety feature.

316/316L Stainless Steel

Constructed entirely from 316/316L stainless steel and aluminum, the SafeBurn™ is built to withstand mercaptan, H₂S, water, and remote field conditions for years of reliable service.

Portable Hand Truck Design

Mounted on a heavy-duty hand truck for easy one-person transport. Move between tanks, around tight sites, and across rough terrain without hassle.

Handles Contaminants

Engineered to burn mercaptan vapors, blanket gases, H₂S, and water-saturated streams from tanks up to 1,000 gallons — handling the full range of contaminants you encounter.

Operator Safety

Protected from Every Angle

The perforated aluminum shroud is more than an enclosure — it's a full-time burn shield. It surrounds the flare body during active operation and remains in place during cool-down, when the flare body retains significant heat.

This means operators can safely attend to the flare throughout the entire process — connecting hoses, monitoring progress, and shutting down — without exposure to the radiant heat of a bare flame.

  • Full circumferential coverage around the flare body
  • Aluminum construction — lightweight and corrosion resistant
  • Perforations allow airflow while blocking direct contact
  • Protects during and after flaring — no waiting required

Push. Flare. Done.

As Easy as Lighting Your Gas Grill

Traditional odorant flares require open flames, prolonged exposure, and multiple attempts in windy or wet field conditions. The SafeBurn™ eliminates all of that.

Simply connect the flare to the tank, open the valve, and push the auto igniter. The flare lights reliably every time — no matches, no lighter, no open flame anywhere near the odorant stream.

  • Single push-button activation
  • No open flame required at any point
  • Reliable ignition in wind, rain, and field conditions
  • Reduces ignition time and operator exposure

Pressure Safety

The Flame Stays Where It Belongs

As flaring progresses, tank pressure naturally decreases. In a flare without proper protection, a drop in pressure can allow the pilot flame to travel backward through the gas line — a potentially catastrophic event.

The SafeBurn™ includes a check valve on the flare gas line that prevents backflow at any point during the flaring process. As pressure drops, the check valve closes — keeping the flame at the flare tip and your tank safe.

  • Activates automatically as pressure decreases
  • Prevents pilot flame from reaching the odorant tank
  • No operator action required — passive protection
  • Rated for mercaptan, H₂S, and blanket gas service
